Send message to all or selected group members

Send message to all or selected group members
You may have noticed the new group feature, which allows the group administrators to send messages to group members.

FireShot Capture 215 - ipernity Administer your group - www.ipernity.com

On the following message form, there are then links to add all fellow administrators, moderators and/or members as recipients.

But what you may not know or noticed yet, is that you can also choose selected recipients. All members of the group are then "your contacts". There "you" means you as a group administrator. This is why you can add also group members as recipients, even if they are not your personal contacts.

Start writing the name onto recipient field, and the system then suggest names of the group members. This is better way to add recipients especially if there are hundreds of members in the group, and you wish to send message to only some of them. Alternatively you can add all members, and then start to exclude people, but it would then become much more time consuming.

P.S. Do notice you can not use this feature to contact non-members. So, if there are for example contributions by former members, you have to contact them separately, if need to.

Was die Gruppen angeht:
Könnte man nicht eine Änderung dahingehend vornehmen, wenn es um das Nominieren von weiteren Admin oder Moderatoren geht? Derzeit gibt es nur die Option, diese "Beförderung" anzunehmen. Besser wäre es aber, wenn ein Mitglied diese mögliche Beförderung noch ausschlagen kann und so ein normales Mitglied der Gruppe bleibt. Würde das Mitglied die Beförderung annehmen, wird es so ebenfalls ein Admin oder Moderator.

I've long thought this would be a worthwhile 'option'. I sometimes discover (often ages afterwards) that I have been made an administrator or moderator of a group without my knowing anything about it and sometimes get frustrated messages from members wanting my input!

At the moment the best option is to do the same, and quit the group to pass the administration to the next who has joined the group after you. Then join the group again.

But someone should be the responsible in the group, and start asking from all members if anyone actually wishes to take the group administration. All it now takes is to send a message to all group members and ask.

Yes, that is annoying and also not fair. Unfortunately, you don't get any news about such things. So no automatic notice, as in the case when someone has joined the group.

Yes, that is probably the best. But it would be a possibility, if one can select the option, because unfortunately the member "after me" is then already so long absent from Ipernity, that the group has then unfortunately no more line. Even if there is the option to distribute questions or discussions now in the group, it does not mean that one also gets an answer. As I said, for the MM and the SSC I use the option to draw attention to the new weekly topic, but some of the members do not even open the message.

Among ima team there was discussed about an option to pass the administration role to the most active group member instead. But I recall it turned out technically too difficult at that moment.

But as a general advice I say it is best to leave a badly administrated group. If an administrator leaves the group irresponsibly, then that is bad group administration.

Moreover, one can report such "abandoned" group to the ima team via tickets.
