Pushing the envelope...

Pushing the envelope...
...to test editing a RAW image. Looks like LightZone got little lost with the RAW produced by Panasonic Lumix TZ60.

Well, at least I discovered something new, and something I already suspected. First of all, when correcting white balance, and trying to restore some tones into very dark areas, it turned out a mission impossible in as extreme case as this. Then I got confirmation for the fact that the camera software does a lot of image correcting to produce nice and fine JPEG images. I already previously was puzzled how there was somewhat zero barrel distortion on wide angle JPEG shots. Turned out my guess was correct. The camera software corrects the distortions. Moreover, I discovered the lens then actually has even wider angle, where from the 24mm equivalent image then becomes produced.

At least this was an interesting experiment. But after wasting way too much time on trying to get something decent out of the RAW image, I decided to keep my amateur ways, and continue shooting JPEG only. EDIT: Or maybe I still need to test the editing software that came along with the camera...

And somewhat fitting soundtrack by Melorman: soundcloud.com/melorman/the-robot-cant-swim

It is definitely worth experimenting and I do like the mix of colours here. I haven't come across LightZone. I assume it is photo software...is this something you would recommend, Sami? A relaxing soundtrack. Thank you for posting to 'Soundtrack to Life', Sami.

Sorry for late reply Roger. LightZone is an open source editing software especially for Linux users, but it is available also for Windows and Mac. But if you already have LightRoom, then LightZone is definitely not at all as versatile as LightRoom is.

Especially those who shoots in RAW, first need to find out if their camera model is supported: lightzoneproject.org/content/raw-profiling-center

I discovered my cheap Lumix TZ60 isn't. So, I will keep on shooting JPEG.

The good thing about LightZone is very intuitive and easy to use user interface. At least I find it very nice and easy. One just add previewed effects, then toggle them on/off, or remove, and finally saves automatically downsized for Web (defined on settings). very much like on LightRoom.

And it's free ;-) One only is asked to sign up for an account at lightzoneproject.org
