Oh so wonderful!! I love love love looking at gems too! So pretty! When Steve and I were on honeymoon in AU, we went from Sydney up to Cairns and then to the GBR for 2 weeks for diving, but at Cairns there was a lovely outdoor craft market and we met a couple who had their own opal mining operation. They hadn't hit it big yet but the gems they'd recovered were turned into the most gorgeous polished pendants and we both picked out one each. We wear them always, only changing the leather string when it frays. I also got a beautiful opal ring from an artist there, and it is always on my finger. Wonderful memories. :)
