PiP 2 and 3: Solution: It is a special candlestick, from the time when there was no electricity. The magnifying glass and the mirror makes the candlelight much brighter (i.e. to use it as a desk lamp)
Some of you have guessed it!
Actually the same principle of magnifying brightness is used in lighthouses.

An impressive and striking instrument, Ruebenkraut. Certainly the PiP makes it look like there is a candle holder ...Sami :-)... but I can't imagine you would examine a flame in great detail. But, perhaps something else is held for examination? :-)

hinstellen auf den unteren Fuß! Kerze oben in die Halterung - das hintere ist der Spiegel und so wird das Licht reflektiert und duch das Vergrösserungsglas wird alles heller !!!
