Abbotsbury Monastery Remains.

Abbotsbury Monastery Remains.
Some time ago I came across a Victorian photograph (PiP) and recognised the location immediately. It took me a while to find a photo that I had taken from a similar spot. I hadn't realised it was as long ago as 2013! The 2nd PiP is St Catherine's Chapel, high on a hill next to the monastery remains.

Abbotsbury housed a Benedictine community founded in 1044 by Orc, a house steward of King Cnut. Its layout probably followed the normal Benedictine pattern of that time, with the monastic buildings grouped around a cloister to the south of the church.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply.. Perhaps great minds do think alike!!

I did go to the tropical gardens directly after the Swannery (only pausing briefly at the beach). While in the gardens took a walk up the hill.. www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/48897616

It would be nice to go and see the young swans next year.. virus permitting!!

One thing that makes our hobby so adorable...there are things we see through the eyes of our friends...and sometimes photos remains us to be there before..what a wonderful comparison Rosa...and the monastry building is so impressive!!!
