It amazed me to see how these narrow boats managed to cross the locks. When we had been at the historic canal-side pub "The Barge Inn" (Honeystreet, Pewsey, Wiltshire) we loved to see them passing by. HFF Rosalyn and a nice weekend.

We hired a narrowboat for a day and the first time in a lock is quite daunting!
I am wondering when you visited Honeystreet, as I lived 2 miles from there from 1975-81. Such a nice surprise to me that you mentioned the location :-)

I think it was in 2001, we went there to "hunt" the crop circles around Alton Barnes, admire the White Horse at Milk Hill and visited other interesting places (Stonehenge, Avebury, Silbury Hill, ...). Good memories of great holidays.

I could see the Alton Barnes White Horse from my kitchen window. We often went for walks around the stones in Avebury. My daughter loved them, even aged just 5. I'm pleased you enjoyed your trip.

A delightful image Rosa. The canals do hold a fascination for me. When we have visited Neptune's Staircase and the Caledonian Canal we have spent hours watching boats going through the locks. It must be different going through them yourself, The narrowboats are very attractive and I like the interaction of the owners and the people watching. HFF and have a good weekend

I love to watch them as well Carol. Everyone on the boats are always so friendly and cheerful. One chap joked that he had a t-shirt saying I'm just a beginner, but now he was almost at the top of the 29 locks, he wants one that says...I'm an expert ;-))

A very nice picture, which I really like, and a great memory of your day!

Fantastic colours, especially the contrast between red and blue boats..

Wonderful composition, especially the lady explaining something.. You caught her just right!

Now the big question for me is, "which was your boat?"

And the supplementary question is "How many miles did you go that day?"

I have been on canal boats (notably over Pont Cysyllte aquaduct) but never as driver/pilot/ captain, etc etc!
