A Juvenile Blackbird.

A Juvenile Blackbird.
Not as sharp as I would like as it was taken through a window at an angle so that the bird didn't see me!

The bird's mum was still around but as usual the young bird was biggest, with puffed out feathers. Thanks for your kind comments. Cheers, Rosa.

I am never sure if birds can see through glass, my exercise bike is in the conservatory next to a window, On the other side of the window is a patio Acer tree and birds come and sit in the tree while I am exercising and they seem totally oblivious to me being there less than 3 feet away.

I know they can see me through the patio door window, which this was Maurice, as they fly away at any movement. However, I think it might have something to do with the light as they don't seem to see me so clearly in the kitchen window, but that is the one that birds fly into in the summer because of the almost mirror like reflections. It is so sad to find them dead on the ground so now I put mosquito type screen across it and that does the trick. It makes the kitchen a little dark but I would rather that than so many dead birds. Thanks for your interesting comment.

Parece joven, no puede ser uno de los que soltaron para rodar la película “The Birds" de Alfred Hitchcocks, pero también allí vimos de esta especie, que son el terror de los frutales.

I only ever see blackbirds feed from the ground, but I do have three fruit trees in the garden, so will keep an eye on that. I remember the Hitchcock film! Haven't seen it for years though. Many thanks for your kind comments.

Hi Rosa,

Great effort to get such a picture.

Interesting question as to if birds can see through glass...
We continually have birds flying into windows and hurting themselves, so I would deduce thy can't see the glass.. I have also noticed that opening the curtains seems to scare them away..

But I also appreciate Happy Snapper's point. Perhaps what scares them is change...

Best Wishes
Peter

Hi Peter,

When the birds sit on the chair on the patio, I could so often get a good picture, but they definitely do see me through the patio door. Interesting that they don't notice me so quickly through the kitchen window...take a look at my answer to Maurice (Happy Snapper).

Many thanks for your interesting comments.

Best wishes, Rosa.

Nicely taken Rosa.............particularly through a window. It does look a bit confused doesn't it? Fairly recently fledged I'm guessing and waiting for Mum or Dad to come back with food.
