Absolutely no sign of spring here yet, so imagine my surprise when I was doing some shopping at the local market - one of the best in Madrid, I am lucky! I should take some photos there but I always forget. Anyway, in the immortal words of Ronnie Corbett; 'I digress...'
... as I was saying; I was doing some shopping when I saw some fresh looking asparagus. I thought, 'OK, Peru or Mexico'; but no! The first of this season's Spanish asparagus from the south. so I bought some and it was very good! Not a patch on my garden asparagus from my own asparagus bed in Pinner, Middlesex in the first week of June and from garden to plate in 10 minutes! ... but not bad all the same. Unfortunately the flavour will deteriorate from now on. Only the first batches of the season have any worthwhile taste!

Nothing ever as good as veg going from garden to plate in such a short time! It tastes so fresh and smells wonderful....can't wait to plant up my veg patch now!!

How pretty, with lovely details, Rosa. Our early crocus didn't stand up well to the snow, but the later ones are managing reasonably well.
