Just a bridge at night

Just a bridge at night
I am a long way short of mastering hand-held night photography.
But I gave it a go....

Slightly better on black

Brought a big happy smile to me Neil.

I used to walk this daily when I did my apprenticeship at Guy's Hospital many years ago !

I guessed you might have seen it before, but I thought you had done your apprenticeship in the east.

I started my apprenticeship straight from school at 16.... I didnt go to Hong Kong till I was 31 !

Thats if you meant that "east". I was born in London (10 miles from Marble Arch !!) we moved to Kent when I was 8.... left school moved myself back to London ......... lived all over the UK ... not least in the "eastern counties" but that came alot later....

That the short version.. I will leave the salacious and exciting stuff out... its a family site :))))))))

Sorry, Pam. I never gave HK a thought, but clearly I should have....because I want to know more!
When thinking of the east....it was more in terms of that place where tall pointed hats are worn ;-)

Just a bridge must be the understatement of the day;-) It looks great! You did really well and the high ISO ( that is, the noise reduction) only shows in full size. I never dared to go above 5000 but I must say the 6D handles 12800 really well.
Did you try to shoot with either reduced ISO or a smaller aperture, testing how good the stabilizer works? I'm a specialist for camera shake but 1/60 looks comfortable even to me;-)

Many thanks, Gudrun. Either I and/or the boat I was on, was moving all the time, so I just set the ISO setting for auto and hoped for the best. I thought that if I stopped and (slowly) changed a few settings I would miss more than a few photo opportunities. At the time I took this shot the boat was paddling sideways onto Tower Pier.
In a static situation with more time, I like to think I would have tried a few experiments.

Being on a moving boat changes everything- 1/60 is comparatively slow for that! No, in this case I wouldn't have tried anything slower...

Pretty darn good in my humble opinion, especially considering it was hand-held from a moving boat ...............about the only thing you could have done to make it more difficult would have been keeping your eyes shut..!!

Thanks a lot for your visit and opinion, Keith. I'm impressed with the sensor in the camera but I would have liked to tried a few different settings on the camera. To do so though, would have taken me a while and in doing so I would have missed other photo opportunities.
The constant throbbing and vibrations beneath my feet, from the engine and electric motors did not help. Something you may be familiar with ;-)
