Grandson's 5th birthday cake 10 12 2021

Grandson's 5th birthday cake 10 12 2021
The brown and yellow fondant icing covered one of my wife's excellent sponge cakes. The drainpipes made from confectionary bootlaces were laid in a trench cut in the sponge. The walls and floors of the partly constructed buildings were chocolate wafer biscuits. The rest of the scene was formed from foam insulation sheets. The cardboard skips were later filled with sweets/candies for our grandson's school friends. The crane was made from tilers' edging strips, with its cabin made from Tic Tac boxes. The trucks and diggers were borrowed from his own toybox.

ୱ Kiezkickerde ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), Alass, David Slater (Spoddendale), Andy Rodker and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Wow. That is some cake! Beating it is not going to be easy.

I think that I must be better at cake decoration than photography, judging by the delightfully encouraging comments that you and others have made. Thank you.

Perhaps it is the novelty of the subject matter, but this is the most interest my snaps have had in a long while. Perhaps I will go back in the family albums and rediscover past efforts.
Thanks for your kind comments.

Perhaps fortunately our grandchildren live far enough away that we rarely see them...

We have three in Melbourne. One of them had a birthday, while they were visiting us, before Covid struck. She had a pink flowery cake which I think her mother decorated.
