The location and date are written on the back of the photo. Percy Pritchard was at the back, in front of the shop's doorway. The caption is mine.

How many saw the peace I wonder?

I think that this photo was taken whilst training, before going out to the Dardanelles. The casualties in the Gallipoli campaign were pretty horrific. My great-uncle was evacuated with frostbite, to Malta, where he was for Christmas 1915.

One for the Vintage Photo Theme Park March 2019 theme - dogs - of which there are at least three in this photo.

Interesting to see the dogs and youngsters (with one on the right caught in midstride) along with the uniforms. And are those ads for "Brasso" in the shop window?

Yes they are Brasso ads. which seems appropriate given the brass badges, belt slides and buckles on the uniforms. It could be an advertising ploy, or perhaps the shop keeper supplied the Brasso at a discount to help the war effort. Who knows?

Suprer photo, but you can't escape thinking of the horrors they would soon face. I had no idea Brasso had been around so long. I got to detest the smell of it during my time in the army.
