According to Ghost Signs: A London Story by Sam Roberts "Bernard Wittick was here from at least 1922 until 1939. The sign is more visible now than in a 1957 photograph, probably the result of whitewashing and repointing the wall at different stages. The lower portionis especially clear, allowing the details and colours of the drop shadows to be seen. A former Islington councilor, Peter Powell, sought to have this sign locally listed but, at the time of writing, it hadn't made the list."
