On the Edge

Stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else

Turbulent Waters

10 Dec 2021 22 16 138
This the overflow pipe from Southwick Park Lake, Hampshire. With all the rain we've had lately it's working overtime..!! Taken yesterday afternoon during a walk around part of the lake's perimeter. I used a small aperture to get an exposure long enough to smooth out the surface of the water a little, while still showing the movement. A weird thing to take a photo of I know, but I kind of liked it. Try viewing large if you have time.

Ivy on a stone wall...........not much more to say about this one.

Bubbles at the Water's Edge

19 Dec 2021 16 19 146
At Hayling Island beach............I was trying to capture the swirling bubbles at the edge of the waves as they lapped around my feet before retreating back to the sea. I think I just about managed it, but you'll probably need to view large. There's another attempt in the PiP (without my feet)!

Pompey Against Plastic Trash

27 Sep 2019 23 22 348
This fish-shaped sculpture by Pete Codling,(based on Portsmouth's star and crescent motif), is known as the Treadgold Fish and has been made from scrap metal from Treadgold's, a scrap metal merchants in Portsea. It is travelling round the city collecting plastic bottles as part of the War on Plastic. I think it's amazing. As of yesterday it was situated on Southsea Common. I was able to get this shot between the torrential rain showers we had all day! Please view large, on black. Thank you.

The Treadgold Fish (+ 3 PiPs)

This fish-shaped sculpture (based on Portsmouth's star and crescent motif), is known as the Treadgold Fish and has been made from scrap metal from Treadgold's, a local scrap metal merchant. It has been travelling round the city collecting plastic bottles as part of the War on Plastic for a few years now. It is currently located on the promenade near Southsea Pier. The PiPs show close up images of the plastic waste. Please view large, on black. Thank you. I took a photo of this when it was still fairly new (and in better weather) back in 2019 which you can see here: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/49238884

Ten Trollys Tethered Together!

09 Feb 2022 16 22 108
I spotted these outside a shop in Portsmouth and liked how neatly they were stacked up and the multiples of everything........lines, wheels, handles, curves etc. Weird of me, I know.........and I needed something to do while I waited for my wife to finish shopping! Please view large if you're up to it.

Windows

01 Mar 2022 18 15 100
These windows are above a closed down shop and they caught my eye whilst I was waiting for my wife outside a shop (again). There are two more in the PiPs if you fancy looking.

Gardeners Hut Contents

11 Feb 2022 21 18 105
Whilst wandering around West Dean Gardens at the beginning of February I noticed that the door to one of the gardener's huts was open. Although it was out of bounds I managed to get a quick shot of the inside, which turned out to be quite fascinating, so I thought I'd share it. A giant pumpkin, various other smaller squashes, a wooden box with what looks like chestnuts attached, and some vintage garden machinery (possibly a garden hose roller, and a couple of spray pumps). I wonder what other treasures were in there!

Feathers

26 Mar 2022 29 35 230
There were quite a few of these on the lawn the other morning, so decided I might has well use them to make a photo. Natural window light on a sheet of black card. Macro Dreams - Challenges: Multiple.

Over Complicated?

05 Apr 2022 21 29 113
I spotted this weird plumbing on a building in the shopping center in Cosham, Hampshire. I liked the way the pipes and boarded up windows contrast with the brickwork. An odd choice of subject matter you may say................but I like odd..!! I've made a start on catching up with you all. If I've missed you, please be patient :-)

Guess What?

26 Apr 2022 15 31 150
Posted primarily for the Macro Dreams Challenge group, but anyone is welcome to join in. I'll add a PiP later today showing what it is..!! PIP NOW ADDED! Also for the following challenges: Geometric, Circles or curves.

The Stalker

20 May 2022 18 28 80
I went for a walk the other day and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being followed. I managed to grab one shot of my stalker before he (or she) disappeared into the undergrowth..!! Very odd..!! Have a lovely day and a good week everyone (and watch your backs) :-)))

Wheat

25 Jun 2022 21 28 93
I drove past a field of unripe wheat last Saturday and decided to stop for a closer look. I found it was surprisingly beautiful. There's a closer shot in the PiP. Thanks for looking.

Café Artwork

22 Jul 2022 17 14 98
This lovely bit of artwork was on the wall in a coffee shop/bakehouse in Chichester, West Sussex. The staff were quite happy for me to take a photo of it and of course my wife and I just had to have some coffee and cake while we were there :-)

Up on the Roof

25 Jun 2022 14 14 66
Spotted this in the grounds of an old church close to where Iive. It's nothing special, but I liked the way that nature was slowly taking over the corrugated roof of this old shed. The shed itself is barely standing, but I suspect it has been left because the roof looks like it's made of compressed corrugated asbestos, which means paying a specialist team to come and take it down.

White Feather

16 Jun 2022 17 24 101
Taken at Broadmarsh Coastal Park, near Havant, Hampshire., There were several swans about on the day that I shot this, so the feather probably belonged to one of them.
