Knowing Your Onions - a Natural Abstract

Knowing Your Onions - a Natural Abstract
According to the Collins English Dictonary the old-fashoined saying, "knowing your onions" means that you know a great deal about a particular subject.

Having said that, I just thought they made a super natural abstract, and the phrase came to mind when I was thinking about a title.

I took this yesterday during a visit to Hinton Ampner House and Gardens - a National Trust property about a 40 min drive from my house. I was looking for something different to photograph rather than the usual architecture and flowers (although I did some of that as well).

I think it looks better viewed large, on black................give it a try!

autofantasia, Ulrich John, Nouchetdu38, Bernard Walbyx and 23 other people have particularly liked this photo

I have often heard that saying Keith. You've made a brilliant job of this natural abstract! A few more there than I grew this year! If the weather yesterday was as good as here, you must have had a good day with the camera!

Terrific abstract Keith, really well composed and focussed photograph, I certainly know my onions and I know this will go with an awful lot of burgers and the rest to make onion relish to go on the burgers. Mmmmmmm!

They were alway hung in the shed until required as I remember, a wonderful abstract but the colours and the textures make the image for me.

An original take. They make a good abstract. I think the French have a similar saying meaning to mind your own business.

I prefer the large view, too. The wealth of intricate detail is much more apparent there, and more mesmerizing.

Thanks very much John............it was the detail that I liked and the reason I took the shot!

I have never heard that saying, but I am certain this makes a superb abstract. Or, it could also be an illustration of your passion for onions. ;-b

Thanks Diane.

I usually eat my onion raw - in sandwiches with cheese and tomato, but in far smaller quantities and you see here :-)
