Crab Spider

Crab Spider
I spotted this tiny little crab spider (less than 1cm) on some leaves in my garden. It is so well camouflaged that had it not moved, I probably wouldn't have seen it - I dashed off to get my camera, but by the time I got my macro lens fitted and got back in the garden it was gone. It was two days before I spotted it again and as usual I had the wrong lens on, so rather than leave it again I used my 40-150mm zoom. This is a large crop. View large if you can be bothered.

The plant is a Stachys Byzantina commonly called Lambs Ear.

Wrong lens or not you've got a beautifully sharp shot. Insects are in short supply up here just now. I think it's been too chilly. The only spiders I've seen are the ones I fish out the sink. Otherwise there seems to be one elusive bumble bee.

Thanks Jean. Glad you like it.

My 40-150mm f2.8 is my fave lens and I use it more than any other I think. It can focus quite close and is wonderfully sharp.

Well Keith, I am impressed that you found it again! Isn't it great to be able to see them more clearly in macro photographs! Your persistence paid of with this great shot!!

Ha ha.......so was I. It seems to have taken up residence, it was still there today and I took some better shots. I've called it Eric :-))

A great find and fascinating close up. I thought it may be even smaller but you got a couple of perfect sharp shots.

Thanks Colin.................the beauty of these spiders is they tend to hang around on the one plant for ages..........so you can go back again and again if you want to. I have plenty of photo's of it now, so I'll leave it in peace for a while.

Awww............it's such a tiny little thing! I don't like getting too close to the bigger ones..!!

Glad you like the photo though :-)
