Statue of a Shepherd

Statue of a Shepherd
This statue, which was created by local sculptor Andy Cheese was placed in Ram's Walk Shopping Arcade in Petersfield, Hampshire when it was opened in 1993.

It caused some controversy when local farmers pointed out that not only is the breed of sheep wrong for the area, but the breed of sheep dog is also the wrong type for the area! Perhaps that's why it's difficult to find an image of this statue linked to the name of the sculpture :-)

Not my normal choice of photographic subject - but I had to do something while my wife was shopping and I enjoyed tracking down the story behind it.

Eunice Perkins, Diane Putnam, trester88, Susanne Hoy and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

I suppose that should have been more carefully researched by the sculpture and the dog does look a little strange, but I do like this kind of sculpture. Apart from those few things, it is a very nice piece of art. I am pleased you filled your time well whilst your wife was shopping Keith. LOL!

Oh, I like this sculpture a lot! I CAN understand people's annoyance that the artist didn't do any homework before embarking on such a big project. A total shame because it ought to be loved and admired but I expect people in the know are annoyed every time they see it. Thankfully, I expect there aren't that many people who could possible tell the difference of the important differences.

You remind me of when Steve has shopping to do in a home improvement/lumber/tool store and I decide to come along with my camera. I toodle around the parking lot and have a grand time photographing all of the plants, leaves, flowers, birds, etc, etc...it's such fun, isn't it? :D

Really like the sculpture and the Shepard is worthy of praise even if is historically out of sync with the area, how much art is factually correct I wonder, Never mind a lovely and interesting capture Keith
