Kennet and Avon Canal 1

Kennet and Avon Canal 1
At last it stopped raining! So took the opportunity to drive to Newbury to take some photos along the Kennet and Avon canal which runs through the town centre. You can see tower of St Nicholas' Church in the background.

The Limbo Connection, Christina Sonnenschein, Treasa Ui Cionaodha, and 13 other people have particularly liked this photo

We have a friend who has gone to live in Newbury, and is forever asking us to visit. This is encouraging me so to do.
Thank you, Keith

You should do Amelia. It's a lovely stretch of the canal - especially in the summer.

Gorgeous shot, Keith!
By the way, has the Newbury by-pass been completed yet? And what was the final cost (in pounds, shillings and pence) if it has?
:o)

Thanks Andy. I had a quick Google..............the bypass was opened in 1998. As far as I can see the total cost was in excess of £100m of which around £35m was for policing and security. Well over 50% over budget!

I'm impressed!! Not only with your diligent research, for which many thanks, Keith, but for the fact that for all the delays and the media's obsession with Swampy etc etc, I would have expected it to have come in at over 200% of budget!
But we are talking 20 years ago and it seems like in the news only last month! Oh well ...

You're welcome. If I have time, I quite like digging about on the internet - there is some fascinating stuff out there in among the cr*p :-))

Very effective composition, with the arc of the riverbank and the trees providing an idyllic setting for the buildings.
