Paradise

Paradise
This week in SSC:

"Deep Depth of Field"

I took this photo on a walk through this pretty neighborhood by the sea. These folks look like they've created a nice little slice of paradise for themselves here.

My scene was taken handheld at f11. "Deep depth of field" is a technique that I haven't really used much but I want to use it more now. It's very intriguing. This was a good and challenging challenge.

...and for Sight and Sound:

The Moody Blues from their album "In Search of the Lost Chord" (1968)

It really is a great view from here. I used to live in this neighborhood as a child and it's really pretty.

Hi Karen,

A beautifully kept garden, a nice house, and a great picture of it too. As Val says, you have certainly mastered the idea of making aperture the key setting!
Now let me really wind you up, and say that I saw the Moody Blues in concert when I was a student too!! (And a lot of others too, but perhaps that is a different conversation!)

Best Wishes
Peter

Oh wow... you are SO lucky, Peter! I would have loved to see them. One of my sisters got to see them too and said they were fantastic.

Thanks for the nice compliment. This was a more challenging technique for me and I really want to learn more about it now.

It looks a lovely place if you have enough money to keep it up:-) Well done! I think f/11 was just right to get everything in focus and of course wide angle is helpful! I have a (manual) 15mm lens which I just leave at infinity and everything from 2-3m distance is sharp:-)

Danke, Gudrun. This wasn't even my first choice for this week but it turned out to be the best of what I got. Anything at a higher f stop was a total bust for me. I'm learning so much about this now and am excited to do more experimenting.

As far as I know, neither of my Sony cameras have an "Infinity" setting. :-\

Yes, most definitely a little slice of paradise. I wonder if they would like a lodger :-)) Deep depth-of-field here for sure and challenge perfectly met I say. A spot-on musical match. Classic Moody Blues.

Thank you, Karen, for posting to Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music

There is depth for the depth of field for the camera to measure. There is something at every distance. A real challenge might be to have a feature article to have much closer to the lens.

Thanks, Pappy.

That's a great idea and I think it would be good to revisit this challenge in the future.
