Ramblin' 'Round

Ramblin' 'Round
In honor of Linda Ronstadt's birthday, July 15th ♥ ♥ ♥

I have loved her since I was a teenager and was lucky enough to see her live in 1976. I think she was one of the best female vocalists ever. She could take a song written by anyone else and make it all her own and she even made me like some Country Music. :)

Happy Birthday, Linda Ronstadt!

For Sight and Sound:

This song is one of my favorites from the first album of hers that I ever heard. It was written by Woody Guthrie, Huddie Ledbetter and Alan Lomax and features Bernie Leadon on guitar and vocals and Herb Peterson on banjo, fiddle and vocals.

From her self-titled album (1972)

Fantastic colour. Super detail. A very beautiful photograph, Karen. And, a lovely birthday tribute to Linda :-) I am very envious that you got to see Linda play live in 1976. I shall always regret not seeing Linda play live :-( At least I still have the LP's, cd's and of course we can now watch those magical moments on YouTube :-)

Thank you my amigo for posting to Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music

Linda's first album is on the cd player as we speak :-)

Happy Birthday, Linda ♥ ♥ ♥

Thank you, Roger! I really wish you could have seen her too but I'm so glad you can see all the good live performances on YouTube now. (Some of my favorite concerts are on YouTube and DVD. :)

The concert was in the "King Dome" in Seattle (since demolished) and it was HUGE. I just remember she was very small on the stage but her voice completely filled that place.I mostly saw her on the big screen they had up as they do with big concerts. It was a great concert with John David Souther and The Eagles too. Back when you really got an amazing show for your money. :)

Love your description, Karen :-) Marvellous memories to be treasured for sure :-)

It was around the middle to the end of the seventies that we saw Emmylou Harris in Concert. Certainly twice and I seem to remember it was likely to have been three times. T'other day, on YouTube, I came across some 1970's footage of Linda in the UK but can't find it now :-( Anyway, still can't understand why we saw Emmylou but we didn't get to see Linda.....at least once!

Wow, you're so lucky to have seen Emmylou. That must have been great.

Is this what you found? www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3bWBjibUgU (I've never seen it before. So good!)

I wonder, is it possible Linda didn't tour the UK? That doesn't seem likely but you never know. Check out this link: www.setlist.fm/stats/concert-map/linda-ronstadt-4bd6bb36.html?year=1969

And Wiki says this: "In total, she has released over 30 studio albums and 15 compilation or greatest hits albums. Ronstadt charted 38 Billboard Hot 100 singles, with 21 reaching the top 40, 10 in the top 10, three at number 2, and "You're No Good" at number 1. This success did not translate to the UK, with only her single "Blue Bayou" reaching the UK Top 40."

Hi Karen. Yes, Emmylou's concerts were some of the best we ever attended. Still specifically remember little snippets e.g. at the London (can't immediately remember the venue) concert the guy in front of us was shouting/screaming his appreciation after most every song :-) Also, at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester before the concert had started there was a guy messing about with a guitar and casually chatting away to some of the audience. I assumed it was one of the roadies maybe tuning the guitar. But, when the concert started I quickly realised it was the legendary James Burton :-) "Willin" by Linda wasn't what I found. But, I am very familiar with this footage :-) It is one of my absolute fave live performances on YouTube! I love the studio version but for me this live version is perfection and pure magic! Also, this footage is from "Old Grey Whistle Test". This was a British television music show aired on BBC2 from 1971 to 1988. I seem to remember that artists played live in the studio but I am pretty sure that sometimes the BBC used concert venues. Thank you for the concerts link. I will be checking it out :-) The facts from Wiki are mightily impressive! But, a bit worrying! If my arithmetic is accurate that is a total of 45 albums :-)

I've just had a quick count of Linda's albums in my collection. 24 cd's, 3 LP's,1 downloaded album. That's only 28 albums. Why I am I missing 17 albums??? :-)))

Oh, it seems there's always a tall guy wearing a hat seated in front of me at concerts lol. There's always some character isn't there? :D I am familiar with "The Old Grey Whistle Test." They had many great artists on that show! I hadn't seen this Linda footage though so that was a nice surprise.

You are way ahead of me in the album department. I have several albums starting with "The Stone Ponies" and ending with her Spanish album. I remember an old boyfriend gave me a bootleg album one year too back in the 70s. I quit collecting her albums after a certain point though. I never quit loving the ones I had though.
