The Flowers do look like 'May' real name Hawthorne. It will have sharp thorns if it is.
The leaves when fresh and young can be eaten, we used to call them 'Bread and Cheese'
Generally they are white, at times with a faint pink edgeto some of the petals, there is a cultivated variety with red flowers.
The common bush is often used to create field bounderies or hedge rows.
May or Hawthorne in Autumn.
I do not think your tree is one, the leves are wrong.
