I'm in two minds. Most places were more picturesque then than now (Oxford certainly), but I can remember London, even in the 1960s, with every building smog-blackened and fag ends and dogs**t everywhere.

London was MUCH nicer in the 1960s. It had a vibe that has now been lost. Smog-blackened buildings still had character, and even the bombsites of the 1950s (which I also remember) had more beauty than these soulless glass monstrosities.
