That is an oxymoron for sure! No war is ever very 'civil.' Great shot, Norm! One other thing I thought was kind of like an oxymoron about it - isn't Indiana a land-locked state? Did they really have a navy?

Thanks Kenny! :-) Indiana ... like most states did not have it's own navy, but it did supply sailors to the cause. Indiana did have Naval bases though. Grissom Air Force base was a Naval Air base in WWII. There are still a few concrete pads scattered about the cornfields that were used as aircraft carrier sized landing pads for the student pilots do do touch and go landings. Indiana is not quite landlocked with the Ohio River to the south and Lake Michigan to the north. The Jeffersonville shipyards on the Ohio River has the largest inland shipyard in the country and built the LST landing craft during WWII. And as amazing as it sounds ... this D-Day landing craft is still in service en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_LST-510. We also have a Naval Armory here still. The USS Indianapolis was a battleship sunk towards the end of the war after delivering parts for the first atomic bomb to the United States air base at Tinian. The few survivors still have reunions here.

Good one. The sad thing is that these civil wars are usually also most brutal.

Great oxymoron and liked the information you gave to Haafager, there is so much we don't know about each of our 50 states. Bravo on the image!
