Gory History

Gory History
Trumpan Church, Isle of Skye, which is probably from 1330s and it lasted until 1578 when the doors were barred and the thatched roof set on fire with a congregation of MacLeods at worship inside, this atrocity by the Macdonald clan was retribution for an attack on clan members on the isle of Eigg

The history and reason for this and the associated clans in these bloody massacres can be read here sobt.co.uk/trumpan-church

Better large in my opinion.

In some parts of the world things haven't changed much since then, I like the processing with that beautiful blue sky reflected in the sea.

I have to agree Maurice, but knowing the history and looking at the still almost deserted landscape somehow gave the images a much better meaning, It's not just a landscape to me now.

The ruins look really beautiful in the sunshine, even though there's not much too them now. I'm guessing a lot of the stones would have been stolen to build houses etc. A smashing shot Roger.

What an amazing (if brutal) history though! Thanks for the interesting link.
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you Keith, Interesting point re the stone more likely to have been used to build or rebuild walls I would guess as the few house that are in the area are mostly modern,
No respect for life in those days.

Keith Burton club has replied to Roger (Grisly) club

Sadly there are far to many places in this world where people seem intent on killing each other, even in this day and age :-(
