Beachy Head - Fence
Der 162 m hohe Felsen ist berüchtigt, weil er oft zum Suizid dient. Ein chaplaincy team (Seelsorger-Team) hält sich tagsüber und abends durchgehend hier auf, um potentielle Selbstmörder zurückzuhalten und zu betreuen. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beachy_Head

Diese hier sind nicht die einzigen Kreuze an der Abbruchkante des Beachy Head.
Als ich dort, auf dem stark frequentierten Wanderweg unterwegs war, saß neben einem solchen Kreuz direkt an der Felskante ein Mann und starrte wie versteinert in die Ferne. 2 Stunden später, auf dem Rückweg, saß er noch immer regungslos dort. Es schien Trauer zu sein...
Ich habe noch heute das entsetzliche, unbeschreibliche, ohnmächtige Gefühl in mir, das dieser Anblick auslöste...

Here, the media do not report suicides because it is believed that it inspires others.
They are just starting to install a barrier (nets underneath the bridge) in the hope this will prevent people from jumping.
Of course, anyone who really wants to kill themselves will do so. However, places like this can provoke people (especially young, drunk people) into doing something they might regret on the way down. Occasionally someone survives the jump from the GGB and has reported this.

C'est pour ça que l'image est si sombre ? Devant un tel paysage, il y a des personnes qui sont émerveillées par la beaute , d'autres ne voient rien qu'une seule chose : leur intérieur ... Un intérieur sans lendemain.... Et oui, on ne peut guère changer l'état d'âme de qq d'autre ...il y en a qui ont essayé ...

A sad tale of our times Gisela. As a person who has walked several times past these flowered memorials on Beachy Head I know how sad it is to dwell on the reasons. A FF without the H I would say Gisela. I have been here and seen the memorials at the places where loved ones have leapt to their deaths. You get a strange feeling of awe just being there and seeing these tributes. You have captured the sombre mood excellently.

Sadly there were a total of ten bodies found in the Beachy Head area in June this year alone, with seven of those in one week, according to a report in a local paper. Some were single individuals, but some were apparently connected to each other. People travel quite a distance to end their lives there. It must be heart-breaking for the Coastguards and RNLI lifeboat crews who have to recover the bodies, as well, of course, for those left behind.
