They invented the venetian blind, I believe. Or they claim to. I'm pretty sure the modern venetian blind is a development of earlier types of blind, like the ones with the heavy slats that can be separated.

I think every film noir used light coming through venetian blinds as a cinematographic device, Bob. But I guess they usually angled the light so it seemed as if the sun was high in the sky.

Light coming through venetian blinds and dark stairways with just one spot of light hitting the hero's eyes as he cautiously climbs up, hand on his gun.

Me, too. For lighting I especially like Wanted for Murder, a 1946 British version of film noir. Free on Tubi at the moment.
