Ed Ruscha seems the most likely inspiration for this.

My liking for pictures like this must link to my schoolboy liking for geometry/trigonometry. This picture is very satisfying!

When I was a kid I used to doodle assemblages of rectangles and triangles, John, Our opportunities for doodling are vary limited these days, so maybe I'm using photographs as doodles.

I didn't have any special fondness for geometry in school, but no distaste either. I also had no talent, so I dropped math before getting to trigonometry. Then I spent my working life doing inferential statistical analysis. Maybe principal components analysis appealed to me because it was like doodling in multi-dimensional space. That is essentially what PCA is. I think I'm getting too pseudo-intellectual here and will stop, but thanks for getting me to think about this.

I think I'm over-caffeinated. Or maybe most of the time I'm not caffeinated enough.
