Corse 2018 : Ajaccio, Cathédrale Notre Dame de l'Assomption
(+ PiP's)

Napoleon III commissioned the architect Louis-Jules André (1819-1890) to carry out a preliminary project to restore and extend the cathedral in 1863. He planned to change the orientation of the cathedral by turning its facade to the east to face Maison Bonaparte. The houses between the cathedral and the Bonaparte House were to be destroyed. A little later, a project was planned to change the layout of the cathedral. The fall of the Second Empire [fortunately] led to the abandonment of these projects.

Eric Desjours club has replied to John LawrenceMany thanks to you.
As for the French organ school of the 19th century, of which Widor is a worthy representative, its general colour is indeed of a somewhat sombre romanticism, but which I find to be of great expressive richness (in general). Your comment shows that you are not insensitive to it.
