L’église gothique de Puiseaux, dédiée à Notre-Dame, date du XIIIe siècle. Ses proportions importantes (Puiseaux ne compte que 1000 habitants) s’expliquent par le fait qu’il s’agissait d’une église paroissiale et conventuelle. Le chœur était réservé aux moines et la nef aux habitants. Ainsi, dès l’origine, l’église comprend une nef et un chœur de quatre travées, séparés par un transept. Deux bas-côtés de moindre hauteur courent sur toute la longueur de l’édifice. A l’origine, le clocher se trouvait sur une tour carrée avec une toiture pyramidale à quatre pentes. Il semblerait que ce soit au début du XVIe siècle qu’il fut surélevé par un étage octogonal coiffé d’une flèche de même forme. En revanche, la torsion du clocher n’existait pas et n’avait pas été voulue par l’architecte de l’époque. La flèche du clocher étant constituée de 8 enrayures reliées en leur centre par un poinçon, c’est la torsion accidentelle de ce poinçon au séchage du bois qui le constitue qui a entraîné la torsion de toute la flèche, car rien ne s’opposait à ce mouvement. Comme le poinçon n’a pas cédé (ce sont les enrayures qui ont brisé), le clocher a conservé une forme harmonieuse et régulière, que nous pouvons toujours constater aujourd’hui. La flèche torse mesure une trentaine de mètres (le coq se trouve à 66 m au-dessus du dallage du chœur). C'était autrefois un port de marchandises qui est devenu en 1983 un port de plaisance. Il fait partie du réseau des canaux parisiens. En 1789, après la destruction de la Bastille pendant la Révolution française, le bassin de l'Arsenal est creusé pour remplacer les douves de la forteresse de la Bastille. De 1822 à 1825 est creusé le Canal Saint-Martin qui relie le bassin de la Villette au bassin de l'Arsenal et donc à la Seine. Passant sous la place de la Bastille, ce canal permet de raccourcir de 23 km le trajet entre le Quai Henri-IV et l'île Saint-Denis et en même temps d'apporter de l'eau potable au cœur de la capitale.
