The Whitehall Building, Manhattan

The Whitehall Building, Manhattan
The Whitehall Building: a 20-story skyscraper located at 17 Battery Place, across the street from Battery Park in lower Manhattan.

The original building was constructed from 1902-1904 as a speculative office building designed by architect Henry Hardenbergh. It was named for Peter Stuyvesant's 17th century home, "White Hall", which had been located nearby. It was converted to apartments in 1999.

Style: Renaissance Revival / Anglo-ltalianate. Simultaneous with Beaux-Arts Classicism was the closely related architectural style called the Second Renaissance Revival (circa 1890-1930), which focused on the more orderly qualities of the Italian Renaissance, rather than the often flamboyant pictorialism associated with the high Beaux-Arts style. McKim, Mead & White were the leaders in the use of this style, as well as of the movement called the American Renaissance.

Bonjour ma chère Bea, I'm surprised you didn't notice it. But I know your eye is rather attracted by people and their singular behaviors within the city!
Many many thanks for your great compliments!!

A fantastic shot, Eric! And thanks for the background on the building. Although a lifelong New Yorker, I never knew where the name Whitehall came from. And congrats on Explore!

We generally know better than our city the ones that we discover as tourists, don't we? Happy to meet an "old" New Yorker! I fell in love with your attaching and nice city that denied most of the stereotypes conveyed on it.
Thank you very much for your compliment and your exchange, Puzzler.
Greetings,
Eric
