SF Ocean Beach (#0001)
San Francisco Ocean Beach, which is fairly far down the SF coast near the SF Zoo.
Regarding the structure in the middle right side of the picture, I could not find any documentation so this is from memory of what was in the papers in the 1990’s. Off camera to my right is the Oceanside Water pollution control facility, which opened in 1993. Per my memory, prior to the opening of that facility, waste water from this side of the city went through a processing plant and then through a large pipe that is part of the structure that is in this picture and was released a fairly long distance off the coast. I don’t remember if this pipe transported just storm runoff, or if it included treated household sewerage. Stricter requirements for water pollution control that were instituted in the 80’s or 90’s required the city to reconfigure its treatment of waste water which resulted in the building of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control facility and in the construction of a new pipeline for releasing treated water much further out to sea, through a pipe that is not visible. I don’t believe the structure that is visible in this picture is currently used.
