Poland - Bus to Krakow (#2251)

Poland - Bus to Krakow (#2251)
Though not terribly visible here, the Polish countryside reminded me more of the U.S. than did German countryside. Compared to Germany the towns seemed to be more spread out and the farms looked to be larger.

This could pass for central Indiana.

I couldn't capture it well from the bus window, but the farm yards looked much more like the Midwest (or anywhere U.S.) that what I was seeing in Germany -- more spread out, more 'never throw anything away' clutter. And, no way at all to verify this sense, but it looked like the fields were much larger than in Germany. I was told that the part of Poland is the 'bread basket' (and vegetable source) for much of northern Europe.

And, of course, in another sense Poland's flatness was its misfortune--it made it a corridor for armies, going both ways. If the US weren't a single political entity that might've happened in the Midwest!
