Phoenix South Mountain Park (1795)

Phoenix South Mountain Park (1795)
Entrance, museum, and ranger station at South Mountain park in Phoenix (the largest city park in the U.S.). Most of the various public structures, roads, viewpoints, picnic areas, and trails of the park were built by the CCC in the 1930's. The park is huge (16,000 acres) with a road climbing 5.5 miles to an overlook with a spectacular view.

At 16,000 acres, this city park is larger than three designated national parks (Hot Springs, American Samoa, and Virgina Islands) and is only slightly smaller than a fourth (Congaree). That's incredible.

It amazed me that, given the modern economics of municipal governments, that it hasn't been converted into something else.
