Lava Beds NM Petroglyph Point (2422)

Lava Beds NM Petroglyph Point (2422)
Petroglyph Point at the national monument. Though not visible in this pictue, the lower area of the cliff is covered in petroglyphs (see adjacent picture). Before Bureau of Reclamation drained the area for farming in the early 1900's, these cliffs were reached by canoe by Native Americans who inscribed petroglyphs in the rock. The original fencing here was built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1937

It's kind of funny ... the BLM drained waterways to create farmland, while the Bureau of Reclamation and the Corps of Engineers drowned farmland to create waterways.

I corrected my description, I had previously said that it was BLM that drained Tule Lake but was wrong, it was Bureau of Reclamation.

Thanks. I hadn't known about them until I was actually in the park.
