Sacramento Tower Bridge (4216)

Beautifully composed.

There's one lift bridge like this that I know of here in Chicago that I've watched in motion, and it's a marvelous contraption. I've seen these in very few places, and I've never seen another quite like this. I wasn't lucky enough to see it in motion when we passed through Sacramento in 2007, though.

Basically you have to be in Sacto when that specific river cruise is running. I was up there repeatedly for years and never saw it run, and didn't think the bridge actually lifted any more -- then I was there on a string of trips when the cruise ran / bridge lifted.

Such bridges seem to reflect a different time, long before there could be easy decisions to wipe out enough property to build the long approaches necessary for a higher, no-lift, bridge.

Searching around on the Internet, there's an astounding lift bridge in Duluth, if you're up there again.
