Marmarth, ND (0411)

Marmarth, ND (0411)
Barber building in Marmarth, ND, built in 1918. Per the town's website (link below), the building was first built in 1909 but burned down and was replaced in 1918. The lower floor was occupied by businesses, while the upper floor was an opera house. The town of Marmarth was once one of the larger cities in the area and developed due to the railroad which still runs on the north side of town. www.marmarth.org

Came across a view of the same building in 2003, when it was in much rougher condition:2003 - 07 - 24 - Marmarth North Dakota Doug

Seems odd to me too. Only thing I can think of is that the economy boom of the early 2000's resulted in all sorts of odd stuff, much of which didn't work.
