Per Wikipedia, the first Union Station opened at this site in 1881 but underwent multiple major changes until the structure here opened in 1914. It is currently undergoing renovation to become the hub of a regional passenger network.

Per Wikipedia, the first Union Station opened at this site in 1881 but underwent multiple major changes until the older structure here opened in 1914. The structure under construction on the left side of the picture is apparently going to be the boarding area for the regional passenger network being developed.

At the time of this visit, Denver was booming with a surprsingly high amount of new construction all in the central area. This is in the rapidly growing LoDo (Lower Downtown) area.

From LoDo (Lower Downtown) looking southeast along Cherry Creek towards downtown Denver. I found it very confusing to think of the section called 'lower downtown' to be northwest of downtown -- in all of the other major cities I've lived in, 'lower' sections were always southern sections.

Along the South Platte River in Commons Park. The stairs on the hill are part of an elevated path (visible in the satellite view), though I couldn't find a description of the purpose of the elevated path. This is all in the LoDo (lower downtown) area, the oldest part of Denver.

A kayaker at a dam on the South Platte River. Since there was no way that he could get over the dam, it appeared that he was using the flow from the dam for either exercise or training.

Interesting design on 20th Street viaduct in LoDo section of Denver. I could find no information about the column, though I did find that the bridge is a 1994 replacement of a structure built in 1909-11. I suspect the columns come from the original structure.

Denver Millennium Bridge, a suspention footbridge crossing the rail and light rail lines. Per a Wikipedia article, due to the distance covered a steeper and higher pedestrian bridge would have been required if a design other then the suspension bridge was used.
