Nemo, SD war memorial (0350)

A grave from Custer's 1874 Expedition, in a field off Nemo Road southeast of Sturgis. I found surprising the amount of attention paid to Custer's expedition and to the wars with Native Americans. I've lived in multiple parts of the U.S. but have never seen as much attention and honor to the battles between American forces and the indigenous people. The small grave yard here is for just one soldier, who died of dysentery. In the large version of the picture you can read most of the plaque.
