TEC Hainaut 3260 (1709 P) in Tournai - 17 Sep 1997

TEC Hainaut 3260 (1709 P) in Tournai - 17 Sep 1997
Wednesday 17 September 1997 – TEC Hainaut 3260 (1709-P) seen on Boulevard des Nerviens near the railway station in Tournai working a special service. It is a DAF engined Van Hool A120 integral that had been new to SNCV/NMVB as fleet number 5491 in June 1979. In this photograph it is wearing a special livery that features an Olympic logo just ahead of the front wheel plus the names of what may be sport sponsors.

TEC (Transport En Commune) is the trading title of the Walloon Regional Transport Company (Société Régionale Wallonne du Transport). The company was created in 1991 when it took over the responsibility for the bus and tram operations in southern Belgium that had previously been operated by Belgium’s national bus and tramway company (SNCV/NMVB).

In addition to operating its own bus fleet (and trams around the Charleroi area) there are also buses operated by contractors to TEC. Vehicles in its own fleet carry four digit fleet numbers with those of contractors carrying six digit fleet numbers – the first four digits relate to the TEC contract number with the final two digits indicating the fleet number of the particular operator.
