C'est un fleuve côtier, longue de 104 km qui se jette dans la Manche entre Dinard et St Malo. A son embouchure se situe le barrage à écluses de l'usine marémotrice qui exploite les fortes marées s'engouffrant dans l’estuaire pour produire de l'électricité. Avec une capacité installée de 240 MW, elle a été pendant 45 ans la plus grande centrale marémotrice du monde jusqu'en 2011. Depuis, elle a été détrônée par une centrale en Corée du Sud, légèrement plus puissante avec 254 MW (PiP scannée d'après carte postale).

ON THE BANKS OF THE RANCE, a coastal river, 104 km long, which flows into the English Channel between Dinard and St Malo. At its mouth is the lock dam of the tidal power plant which uses the strong tides flowing into the estuary to produce electricity. With an installed capacity of 240 MW, it was the largest tidal power plant in the world for 45 years until 2011. It was dethroned by a plant in South Korea, slightly more powerful (254 MW). AN DEN UFERN DER RANCE, einen 104 km langen Küstenfluss, der zwischen Dinard und St. Malo in den Ärmelkanal mündet. An seiner Mündung befindet sich der Schleusenstaudamm des Gezeitenkraftwerks, das die starken Gezeiten, die in die Mündung eindringen, zur Stromerzeugung nutzt. Mit einer installierten Kapazität von 240 MW war es 45 Jahre lang bis 2011 das grösste Gezeitenkraftwerk der Welt. Seitdem wurde es von einem Kraftwerk in Südkorea abgelöst, das mit 254 MW etwas leistungsstärker ist. (PiP nach Postkarte gescannt).
