History and Hospitality

The Medieval Gallery, Dunster, housed in what was once an old medieval inn, now specialises in work by living artists and crafstmen taking inspiration from the Middle Ages. They create paintings, sculptures, stained glass and illumination, jewellery and the gallery also has a brass rubbing centre,
It also holds arms and armour, antiques, pottery, curios and medieval style textures and furniture reproductions.
I have added a song called Liberal Arts by Hospitality

Captured at Steart, Somerset. Rolling clouds gather over the Welsh coast in the distance and the island of Steep Holm on the far right. The stormy light catches the farmland in the foreground.

Danger Zone! (PiP!)

The closed off entrance to Birnbeck Pier captured in early evening light at Weston super Mare. You can just see the end of the dilapidated Birnbeck Pier on the far left behind the fence, and the Pip shows it in full. Hopefully when the pier is finally renovated this will be a more pleasant place to sit and enjoy the sea air.
I have added Gwen Stefani's Danger Zone as a link

Tragedy, Triumph and the Fairy Flag- and the Photo…

Bench in the shade of Trumpan Church, Waternish Peninsula, Skye, Scotland
In 1578 the MacDonalds of Uist arrived by boats, under cover of the fog and locked the congregation of MacLeods in the church, setting fire to the roof. All but one perished. The alarm was raised and the MacLeods killed all the invaders in the Battle of the Spoling Dyke. It is said they were able to exact revenge on the MacDonalds when they unfurled and waved the MacLeod Fairy Flag.
There are several legends regarding the origin of the flag, one of which was that it was a gift to an infant child of a MacLeod Chieftan, and yet another was that it was given to a MacLeod chieftain by his fairy lover when she had to return home. Another suggests it was a gift from Titania, the wife of Oberon the fairy king. It was said that once the flag had been unfurled three times the magic, the flag and the holder of the flag would disappear forever.

Rope Walk (PiPs)
|
|
|
|
Taken at East Quay, Bridgwater on a lovely sunny day. The Rope Walk runs alongside the River Parrett to the town centre, the rope design snaking along the pavement, commemorating the ship building heritage of the town and associated rope making industry.
The last ship to be built in Bridgwater, by F J Carver & Son was the 100 foot ketch the Irene, built in 1907, and she is still sailing today.
I have added a track called 'The Long and Winding Road' by Paul McCartney as a nod to the winding of the rope trail

A Dockside Seat (PiP)
|
|
|
|
A stone couch for a little (cold) comfort as you relax in the sunshine.
The docks used to be home to a number of houseboats but they have been temporarily removed and I, for one, will be pleased to see their return.
The colourful building in the background is the recently built Northgate school.
Sunset Over The Bay

Taken at Burnham on Sea. The setting sun across the water lends a mellow and romantic mood, and I have paired this with the chilled out track
