Where The Earth Moves

28 Sep 2021 67 82 263
A view of part of the magical Quiraing on the Isle of Skye viewed from the Uig side. I say magical because the landscape is truly fantastic, with craggy cliffs, pinnacles and plateaus as well as small lakes The Quiraing is part of the Trotternish Ridge escarpment which was formed by a series of landslips, and is one of the the largest in Britain, the Quiraing being the only one where the land is still moving. The road below it needs regular repair due to the way the land shifts a few centimetres each year. The Quiraing comes from the Old Norse 'Kvi Rand'. meaning ' Round Fold'. The 'fold' of the landscape was used back then to conceal cattle from Viking raiders. I have added Carole King's 'I Feel The Earth Move' as my link www.youtube.com/watch?v=6913KnbMpHM Best viewed large I think. Thank you

Eagle Barge Inn (PiP)

20 Jun 2010 63 93 312
One from the archives, the floating pub, the Eagle Barge Inn at Laggan Locks on the Caledonian Canal captured in 2010. The benches can be seen on the deck where you may enjoy lunch, liquid or otherwise!! Laggan Locks are a series of water lock gates between Loch Oich and Loch Lochy. They are part of the 60mile stretch of waterway that is the Caledonian Canal, which cuts through the Great Glen and connects the south coast of Scotland to the west coast. It was completed in 1822, the engineer responsible for this remarkable design was Thomas Telford. With the name of the pub I just had to use a couple of Eagles' tracks as my links:- So come on aboard and 'Take It Easy' for a while www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaBw37-nWaY Please drink responsibly and if you are going to 'Take It To The Limit' please don't drink and sail!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJkW0Clsvrk

North Drain from Jack's Drove on the Somerset Levels. The setting sun reflects in the water and standing here you feel as if the sunset is unfolding just for you, like a show with the spotlight on a stage setting. I didn't want to leave until the show was over. In the words of the Aerosmith song 'I don't want to miss a thing' www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDcGtz2Wx4s I have also added Jennifer Hudson and 'Under the Spotlighr' as a link www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9qtRcHJVI8 This is probably best viewed large. Bandstand (PiP)

14 Mar 2022 59 82 321
Captured at Blake Gardens, Bridgwater, Somerset. The old bandstand sadly sees little use these days and is in need of repair and decoration. It used to be so nice to sit here and listen to bands playing whilst enjoying the sunshine and gardens. The PiP is of the flower bed with walkway through the park on the left of the picture. On the other side of the wall is the River Parrett. I have added a song by Aha. Here is ' The Banstand' www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvy4h-DXFZ0 and the bandstand needs fixing so here is 'Fix You' and a live performance by Coldplay and Ed Sheeran www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9aL0otZalc

Corran Point Lighthouse

14 Jun 2009 46 34 247
The Corran Point Lighthouse at Ardgour, - an image from the archives. The Corran Ferry near Fort William in Scotland, crosses Loch Linnhe at the Corran Narrows, travelling across to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. It is a well used service and although only a short distance as the crow flies, the ferry saves a car journey of over and hour between Corran and Ardgour. Here is David Gray and a song called 'As The Crow Flies' www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDMPrVkK_dQ

Sunlight on Stone. HFF

28 Sep 2021 64 94 271
Captured outside of the Skye Museum of Island Life at Uig on the Isle of Skye. The late afternoon September light catches the lichen covered standing stone at the roadside and in the background the preserved thatched cottages, seven in total, reveal the secrets of 19th century crofting life. Inside the museum visitors can see a family home complete with simple furnishings, a smithy, a weaver's house and a ceilidh, or meeting house, along with an array of crofting tools and equipment. There are also archives, including the story of Flora MacDonald, who smuggled Bonnie Prince Charlie to safety disguised as a spinning maid. I have added 'Heart of Stone' by Whiskey Myers www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKtz6qOtqv4&list=RDYKtz6qOtqv4&start_radio=1&rv=YKtz6qOtqv4&t=181

Underwater Fence HFF

19 Feb 2023 53 93 236
Captured at Jack's Drove, on the Somerset Levels posted for a HFF image. I am making changes this week as this one is closer to home and it is only a reflection of a fence, but I loved the colours and to me the bits in the water looked like a sprinkling of stardust. So Jack's Drove and changes, and I have therefore added a song by Jack Savoretti called 'Changes' www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHmlMwUWTg4 Best viewed large, I think please

Trumpan Church View

29 Sep 2021 51 64 180
Captured at Trumpan Church, Waternish Peninsula on the Isle of Skye. The church was destroyed in 1578 when the MacDonalds of Uist arrived by boat and landed under cover of fog. Finding their enemies the MacLeods at church they barred the doors and set fire to the church killing everyone inside. the alarm was raised and the invading MacDonalds were killed in the 'Battle of the Spoiling Dyke', - reference to the way the bodies of the MacDonalds were thrown into the dyke , their bodies deemed unfit for a proper burial I have added a song by Scottish band Runrig called The Greatest Flame www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKqUuZmLmeQ and a second Runrig song here Protect and Survive www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-EBXxdni7U Best viewed large I think. Thankyou. HWW

Under the Ivy

09 Feb 2022 53 68 180
Captured at Steart Drove, Stockland Bristol, Somerset. I liked the way the wall curves and then just stops, the reason for it being there maybe long forgotten. I also found the ivy on the wall quite attractive. I have added a song by Kate Bush called 'Under the Ivy' www.youtube.com/watch?v=RakusC4m3io The image is probably best viewed large I think please.

A Place to Sit and Dream (PiP)

18 Jul 2022 58 80 230
Staxigoe Harbour, Caithness, a peaceful little harbour that was once the largest herring station in Europe, and is now a place to sit and dream. The PiP shows an old, rusty hand winch that stands near to the stack from which the harbour gets it's name.(Staxigoe means the inlet of the Stack) I have added a song by the great Roy Orbison called 'Dream (When You're Feeling Blue) www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjkUypD4hko In 16.9 format so large view recommended. Thank you
