Thank you very much George. It is actually bigger than it looks here. I took this picture from the roadside and from this angle it looks quite small. We didn't climb up to it on this visit - it is quite a steep incline. The last time we visited this area we did go up there but came down faster thatn we went up. It was a really hot summer day and I was being eaten alive by midges!!

Thank you very much Christa, and also for the kind group invitations. The angle does not really do it justice - it is a lot bigger thatn it looks here, and it is at the stop of quite a sttep incline.
We did not risk it again as the last time, again on a sunny day, I was bitten a lot by midges!!

Indeed, midges can be annoying, but if you use repellent essential oils, like eucalyptus, citronella or lemongrass, it keeps them away.

We didn't go back up there this time - I took it from the road way below. It is quite s steep incline leading up to it. The last time we were here we walked up to it but it was a warm day, as this was, and I was surrounded by midges so we beat a hasty retreat!!!!

Thank you Isabel. We went up there on our last visit but although it was a steepish climb the seat was no good to me, - there were so many midges nipping at me I couldn't wait to go back down to the car!!! I often react badly to them and come back looking like a spot on a road map!!

Thank you very much Jocelyne. ;-))) It would need a lot of restoration I think. When we last visited there were people up in the tower admiring the views, but I think that the rest of the building, much of which can't be seen from here is missing the roof. Sleeping under the stars might sound romantic, - but not in Scotland, and at my age I am all for comfort!!!! I would like to go back for another look though.

C'est toujours regrettable de voir de belles architectures du passé se dégrader avec le temps et finir à l'état de ruine, la conservation du patrimoine est un véritable problème de politique culturelle et de moyens financiers évidemment, nous connaissons cela aussi bien sur, il reste les photographies et peintures pour immortaliser nos trésors ... Thank you very much Dominique. I do agree with you and it makes me sad when buildings that hold such historic interest are left to go to ruin. I realise that restoration and repairs are costly but feel we are too quick to throw away our past. However this castle is in the hands of Historic Scotland now sp can only hope that it will not be allowed to deteriorate much more.
