Skipper

A lovely landing shelter and marine environment. The presence of the boats makes the scene quite intriguing and the ruined castle is a distinct focal point. (Clearly it was meant to protect the port from enemies assaults... but eventually succumbed!).
The colourful little boat in foreground gives depth and a peculiar character to the image.

Thank you very much Skipper. It would seem that it was a fortress and although the present building dates back to around the 15th Century there are tales of a castle being there as far back as the year 900, when the Mackinnan chief at the time married a Norse princess nicknamed Saucy Mary. It is said that they ran a heavy chain across the sound and charged a toll to allow shipping vessels through.
