So hübsch und dennoch gefürchtet - So pretty and yet feared

This pretty little butterfly strayed into my study recently. It was the box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis), a species of butterfly that originates from East Asia and came to Europe about 15 years ago through imports of cheap box trees. Boxwood plants are widespread ornamental trees in gardens, cemeteries and parks. The caterpillars of the box tree moth only eat the leaves and bark of the box tree (Buxus sempervirens) and can kill the plant. Due to the lack of natural enemies, the box tree moth has become very widespread. Luckily, some bird species seem to have taken a liking to the nutritious caterpillars, so hopefully the damage will gradually diminish.

Thank you for the interesting note.
