Specht-Tintling - (Coprinopsis picacea) - Magpie inkcap - PiP

One of the most beautiful mushrooms is the magpie inkcap fungus (Coprinopsis picacea, syn. Coprinus picaceus). The German name is certainly derived from the black and white colouring of the spotted woodpeckers on the wings (see PiP). The fungus is found in Europe and Australia and loves calcareous soils. In Germany it is relatively rarely found in beech forests. It is not edible. The specimen shown in the photo was growing on the edge of a mixed beech forest.
