Esparsetten-Widderchen / Crepuscular burnet
Zygaena carniolica is a day-active small night butterfly from the family of Zygaenidae. Both the caterpillars and the adult animals are poisonous and document this for predators by means of their conspicuous warning colouring. The species was voted "Insect of the Year 2008" in Germany and Austria. The Zygaena carniolica is on the Red Lists as "endangered" or "highly endangered" in several federal states of Germany.
The picture was taken in a Franconian nature reserve near Karlstadt am Main (Germany).
