Waldesruh - Forest peace

Diesen Birkensee auf dem Plateau des Schwanbergs legten die Kelten vor mehr als 2000 Jahren an, um auch bei Gefahr genug Wasser für Mensch und Vieh zu haben. Auf der Insel in der Mitte des Sees wurden Reste eines Wachtturms gefunden. Auf dem Schwanberg befand sich bis zur Germanisierung ein beachtliches keltisches Oppidum.

This lake on the plateau of the Schwanberg in the Steigerwald mountains was constructed by the Celts more than 2000 years ago in order to have enough water for humans and cattle even in case of danger. On the island in the middle of the lake, remains of a watchtower were found. Until Germanisation, there was a considerable Celtic oppidum on the Schwanberg.
