Extreme Rarities (1): Old Snow at 1,450m End of July
Today on our hike to the Via Ferrata "Klamml" in the Kaiser Mountains (Tyrol, Austria): More than 2 m thick old snow at approx. 1,470 m altitude in the middle of the hiking trail. We have not experienced this in the last 10 years in July. The edge gap looks narrow, but was insurmountable, because one couldn't jump on the sloping rock slabs. Fortunately, there was a lower situated bypass.
