In March the ice, as we stood there,
Knifing away of shore,
Was a plate a mile long, half a foot thick

In August you put down your chicken,
Wiped your hands on a paper napkin,
Seated at a lawn table I'd painted red

Two swans beat through the air
Between the willows and you
