I used to swear by my daily newspaper and most days I could get The Times from a kiosk in Madrid. Then 18 months ago I moved out of the centre of Madrid and that, as they say, was that! I tried to get the online version but technical issues have msde it impossible to get it online in Spain.
So Iam relatively ill-informed these days!
I look at those newspapers in your excellent shot, aNNa and pine for my old newspaper!
There was nothing more relaxing in the middle of a long day than to stop by a nice terrace cafe with the paper and a café solo and do the crossword! I miss it a lot!

Andy, I understand that very well, I've been living in a village in Bavaria for many years now. But I've gotten used to not reading the newspapers first thing any more. You can forget the regional newspaper, it's primarily about 'who was where' and who died. - for a national newspaper like the 'Süddeutsche Zeitung' or FAZ, I don't have the money now that I'm retired, they're just too expensive to subscribe to.
I've gotten used to not reading newspapers anymore. I get my information from TV and the Internet ... and that's generally enough for me when it comes to politics. The world keeps turning...
The culture and the stories surrounding it have changed. And lately Corona has contributed to the fact that time has become slower and more reserved.
So you have to enjoy and enjoy the things that come your way on a small scale.

I agree with all of your sentiments expressed here, aNNa!
I too found that 5 € for a newspaper from England (and truncated for weight purposes too!) got to be too much of a strain! So I only bought the Saturday Times which had a nice jumbo-sized crossword which Marta also enjoyed as it helped with her English. We used to do this together while having croissants and coffee at our favourite terrace café. Alas no more; I also used articles from the paper for my English classes. Times have certainly changed!
Fortunately I am able to buy these jumbo crosswords from Amazon so Marta can still have her crossword fix!

In Germany we have the 'Apotheken-Umschau'. This is a journal of pharmacy. Since we are older, we have to go to the pharmacy from time to time to get medicine. This journal is available there free of charge. When you read it, you realise how many diseases you have, or it makes you sick :-))))))).
So forget about reading, but there are crossword puzzles in the back and I solve them ;-)))))))
